Little Date Nights

March 29th, 2012

Lately it seems that we can’t decide what to do with our date nights. We might make dinner plans, but then change them up last minute and drive off in the opposite direction. I guess we should feel fortunate for that finicky flip flop, because we can only afford to change our minds if we actually think of something to do in the first place. Sometimes date night rolls around and we’re at a stalemate.

Movie dates deprive us of that precious time for uninterrupted talking, something that can get painfully rare in our day to day lives. Sometimes we think maybe we’ll just stay in and enjoy our quiet, calm home for a few hours. And some nights we skip the outing, wait until we’re sure the girls are sound asleep and order take-in.

Have we suddenly grown old? Or are we just exhausted parents? By the time the weekend rolls around, I think we’re so eager to get a little time to ourselves, we don’t care what it is we’re doing.

However we choose to spend our date nights, the key elements are always there.

Him and me. That’s all we need.

What He Wore…the Birthday Boy

August 5th, 2011

birthday boy with his birthday bow tie

You may have seen that the boy up there had a birthday last week. We left the house to head out on our dinner date and the man looked so dapper, I ran back inside to get the camera and made him pose in the heat for photos. Sorry Love, I know I had promised no outfit photos in honor of your birthday. But you are so darn cute, you see…

One of Ant’s gifts from me this year was a pair of bow ties. I found out on Father’s Day that he wouldn’t be opposed to donning one here and there, and I quickly recorded that knowledge in my memory. I pulled out the two most masculine cottons I could find in my fabric stash and started drafting a few patterns. It was tricky because I have no idea how thick his neck is and I certainly couldn’t ask and risk spilling the beans. So I drafted and cut and sewed and tied them around my neck until finally I thought I had a close enough size that would suit Anthony. Along the way I learned how to tie a bow tie and who’d have known it’s so fun? Anyway, I’m excited to build him a little collection of handmade bow ties. And maybe a neck tie or two is in order?

He is wearing:

Spectacles // Warby Parker
Bow tie // handmade by his wife
Bracelet // Energy Muse
Button up // ASOS
Denim // Good Society
Shoes // PF Flyers

Happy Friday! XoXo.
