The man of our house turned 27 today. This evening we went out to celebrate. We dined at St. Francis, maybe kissed a little bit in the bathroom, then headed on to Churn for ice cream, cookies, and the boy’s special request – an affogato. We even got a little rain on the drive home.

The boy was dapper and handsome and winsome.
Happy Birthday, my love. So grateful we share this world together. Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday.

We celebrated Father’s Day a little early in our house this year. Saturday was deemed Ant’s Daddy Day. I don’t really know why we celebrated early, except that we also celebrated Mother’s Day a day early. I think it may be a new tradition we’ve started for our family.
Saturday morning Ant woke up to his gift from me and the girls – an IOU for a Daddy Chair. (More on this in a post coming soon!) I gave him my card and soon Ella woke up and chatted at us from her big girl bed next door. She stumbled in, all bed-headed, and I told her to go grab the card she’d hidden in the very bottom drawer of her dresser. She ran to retrieve it, having half-successfully kept it a secret since Friday afternoon.
We dashed off to breakfast, did a little grocery shopping, then dropped Ella off at her Yaya and Papa’s house for a playdate. And the rest of us headed out to our favorite vintage store to search out the Daddy Chair. Well we found it, and fell in love with a mid-century sofa too. We may be bringing it home within the month. Eep!
I made lunch, mowed the front lawn (it was so hot my face turned into a blazing tomato. Now I remember another reason I hated P.E. in school…), jumped in the shower, and we were off to our Father’s Day picnic.
We went to Pane Bianco, the home of Ant’s most favorite sandwich. We spread out a blanket on the lawn and plopped our tired selves down to relax and enjoy our dinner. It was a great way to finish off our special day dedicated to Daddy. Here’s what our picnic looked like:

Yesterday we celebrated our own amazing dads-slash-papas. We churched and brunched with my parents in the morning and took a few family photos together in the afternoon. That evening we met up with Ant’s side of the family for a little pizza and play time for the kiddos.
What a lovely weekend of celebrating the men in our lives. I hope you had a wonderful one!
Sweetest wishes, Katy

I got to celebrate my birthday with friends this past weekend! We went to dinner at one of our favorite spots, The Parlor. The building was once a beauty parlor and the restaurant has kept little touches of the salon here and there. On the walk to the restrooms you’ll find a vintage hair drying chair, and the bar is lined with old beauty parlor chairs.
I love the atmosphere and the food is delicious. You can never go wrong with wood-fired pizza and lately I’ve been loving one pasta dish in particular. They have zeppole and tiramisu. And the chocolate cake – oh no, the chocolate cake…
The walk into the restaurant is lined with a lush herb garden. For this non-gardener, it’s definitely something I’m in awe of every time we go. The patio of the restaurant is what I would love our back patio to materialize into someday. Ivy enveloping the mod block walls, string lights and candles creating the soft glow.
Friday night I had it all – the atmosphere, the cake, and the best company. This is what I wore…

I really love this dress. It’s so feminine and breezy and not something I would expect to find at the price I brought it home for. But like most of my clothing lately, it was pulled off the rack at Forever 21.
The Line Up…
Dress: F21
Necklace: F21
Belt: F21
Bangles: Alex & Ani, gift from husband
Ring: vintage, passed down from my dad
Wedges: Blowfish Garrens
I realized recently that I don’t have many photos with friends at all. I am going to resolve to change that. So, a shot with friends and one with my love:

sweet Eylse and dear Erin

Thanks for making it such a special night, you lovelies!
If you live in Phoenix, have you ever been to The Parlor? Also for you Valley dwellers, are there any restaurants we should check out?? We love finding new favorites!
(Sorry about the overload of images this time around…can you tell I love this dress?!)

Today was such a great day. It started off bright and early at quarter to five when the Lollipop rolled herself over and woke her little self up. I nursed and snuggled her back to sleep and lay there listening to the early birds sing their songs. It’s a different kind of bird you hear that early in the morning. I think it’s my favorite, although I have no idea what specie it is. They sang me back to dreamland until light came through the windows and Ant was poking me with his foot at 7am. I opened my eyes to see this:

Then I looked over at this little love nugget.

We took our donuts to the sofa where Ant had set out his gifts. When Ella began her morning story telling, we went in to greet her and without prompting, she told me about a paper she needed to give me. I lifted her out of her crib and she went to her dresser, opened the bottom drawer, and pulled out a card. It was the cutest thing. Inside was a list of things she would do for me today…
my favorite – “sleep slower”…she delivered on all except maybe “read my books way fast”. Impossible for this bookworm.
This morning there was a little of our ordinary…
nakey time
blowing kisses
Ella played with my parents while Poppy and I went to see a friend’s bridal gown and try on a couple bridesmaid dresses. I hadn’t seen our friend Elyse since she became engaged and it was fun to see her so happy over her dress. It is just perfect for her.

This evening we went out for a birthday dinner to one of my favorite places, Zin Burger. We had such a nice time at dinner but my favorite part was when we each threw a penny in the fountain and made a wish. It was magical. I love my family so much.

We came home for candles, cake and ice cream and put Ella down for bed at 10:30. A full day of birthday, and it was fabulous.
We have a busy tail end of the week. Tomorrow morning Ella’s Big Girl Bed is being delivered and set up (right now she slumbers in her crib for the last time – I’m this close to crying…). Then it’s off to lunch with Auntie Erin and home for a nap in that huge new bed (maybe I’ll get to snuggle in with her!). And Friday night is birthday dinner with friends!
Yesterday I was feeling a little bummed about turning 27. Not because of the number specifically, just the fact that I’m getting closer to 30, which is closer to 40, and so on. I just don’t feel like a 27 year old. Funny thing is, I don’t know how a 27 year old is supposed to feel. I feel like I’m 18, except that I’m out of school and have adult responsibilities, so then maybe…22? I really don’t know how old I feel.
But if 27 means you are in a place of contentment, loving every day whether it brings sunshine or rain, finding inspiration all around, and striving to be your best self, then I think I just might feel like a 27 year old.
