All Around Me

February 12th, 2012

I see . . . Anthony in the front yard, walking the push mower over our dry grass. Sometimes he runs and it makes me smile.

I hear . . . a breeze through the open front windows. Something about it sounds like “home.”

I smell . . . balsamic vinegar.

I taste . . . brussels sprouts drenched in balsamic, my afternoon naptime snack.

I touch . . . yarn, working up my second granny square.

I am happy right now. Do you ever just get that happy, content, completely satisfied feeling and you’re not sure why or how? Nothing great has happened, but maybe it’s just a bunch of little things that mount up into this calm, fulfilled feeling.

Last night I stitched up my first ever granny square. I’m so excited to slowly build enough squares to create a blanket one day. I expect it will take a long time, and I’m looking forward to lazily getting it done.

My mom and I went to church just the two of us this morning. When it was over, I picked up Anthony and the girls to meet our friend Erin for donuts. (I’d been craving LeMars all week!) We had a nice visit over our donut lunch.

Home again, I started the major task of cleaning out our room. Since becoming parents, our room has become storage for any and everything that doesn’t have a place. I’m in the mood to purge and it feels good. I got a head start on the cleaning and now the littles are down for their naps. This week I learned that I need naptime as much as they need naptime. None of us are happy when it’s skipped. I’m looking forward to a slightly better week.

Tonight the husband and I are going on a date and I am getting excited. We considered skipping date night this week but when my parents offered an evening of playing with the girls, we jumped. We’re going to hit Chipotle and then see “The Vow.” I hope it’s good – it looks a lot like “The Notebook” and I love Rachel McAdams but neither of us are fond of the guy that’s in it. Here’s hoping. It will be a good time anyway…I love date nights.

What’s making you happy right now? Happy Sunday!

xoxo

All Around Me…

June 28th, 2011

It is a beautiful afternoon.

I see…leaves being tickled by the wind out my front window.

I touch…soft yarn as it slides through my fingers.

I hear…my baby’s swing gliding her into slumber, back and forth, back and forth. And Nat King Cole softly crooning alongside me.

I smell…the faint peach scent wafting up from my tea.

I taste…peach oolong tea that hits my tongue through a red striped straw.

This is what Summer afternoons are made of.
What’s all around you today?

All Around Me

March 21st, 2011

It is naptime in our house.
One Little is asleep, the other has other plans.

I thought I’d pop in and share what’s around me this rainy afternoon.

Right now I…

See a kicky little baby

Smell the candle that reminds me of the beach

Taste tea and Nutella toast

Hear the rain drizzling out my open window

Touch a squishy little belly and tiny toes

Now I should get back to this little butterball. Somebody wants to play.

What’s all around you this afternoon?
