Telling us the way it all works…
While I was drafting Poppy’s Tiny Style post last week, I came across this one from October that had somehow gotten lost and overlooked. Looking through these pictures was a sweet flashback. Ella was newly three and pre-bangs. This type of outfit is perfect for the sort of weather we’ve been having lately. Shorts and a tank, with a jacket easily layered. We could add a pair of tights to work with the lower temps and wind of this past week. I love the softness of the shorts with the structure of her denim jacket. This is one of my favorite pieces of hers…I just can’t get over a little girl in a denim jacket!
Ella wore this on our outing to Agritopia one Fall morning last year. We ate at Joe’s Farm Grill then walked the property and ran up and down the paths. Afterward we stopped in at The Coffee Shop for cupcakes. It was such a fun family day.

Here’s to the weekend! It could be a big one for us – we may be venturing into the land of potty training over here. We’ll see if there’s anything to share next week! Oh boy, wish us luck!!
What’s on your wishlist for the weekend?

Over the past few weeks, Ella has become a master tricycler. One day it just clicked. Out of the blue she understood how to pedal and keep herself going and how to turn the handlebars to take her in the direction she wanted to go.
We put her helmet on and let her trike out from the garage and there she went, down the driveway, turning right at the mailbox and going down the sidewalk to the end of the block.
She’s so thrilled! And I’m a proud mama! I’m in awe that it all just made sense one day.
…If only potty training would follow suit. (And soon!)

Mother Nature can’t make up her mind in Phoenix this week. She gives us sunny, warm and bright days that seem to be ushering in our Summer season early. Then she turns around and drops the temperature 20 degrees and we wake up the next day, chilly and hopeful, clinging to the idea of just a few more mild days…
Partly cloudy, full sunshine, gusty blustery winds – Mother Nature is acting as finicky as my mind sometimes. Whatever she chooses, I’ll take it and bask in the variety for a short time. (We all know those triple digits are on the horizon for our dry sunshiny home.)
I’m always sad to put away my boots when the weather heats up but maybe tomorrow I can get one last hurrah out of them before we enter our early Summer. And scarves, well those last about a month around these parts. I bought a warm coat this Winter and if it weren’t for our trip to Disneyland in December, I don’t think I’d have given it enough wear.
My sister came to stay over Christmas this year and brought two skirts to pass down to me. She is the best big sister to get hand-me-downs from. This dress is from her closet too.
Do you know why I love this skirt? First, it was my sister’s.
Second, poppies. There are poppies on it!!
I love it for its history too – my sister found it in a thrift store in Tokyo. I mean, really…
Thanks, Fooza. Love you.

Shirt // H&M
Skirt // Thrifted by sister, handed down
Boots // Steve Madden
How’s your week starting off? What kind of weather is Mother Nature giving you this week?

Hayyy there!
How was your weekend? We had a nice one, slow and relaxing and some quality time as a family. I really couldn’t have asked for anything more from a weekend. Here are some scenes and stories from the last few days:

Friday afternoon I escaped the clan to have some me time. It had been some time since I’d done that and it was clear that it doesn’t happen often enough. Ella had a meltdown when I tried to leave and once I made it out the door, I caught a glimpse of Poppy screaming in the window. Giant sad face.
After some guilt had worn off, I really enjoyed that quality time with myself. Sometimes it’s hard to remember as a mom that you need and deserve that time for yourself.
I’d told Ella that I had to shop for bras and the trip wouldn’t be fun for her anyway. So after I’d been gone long enough for her liking, she told Anthony, “Mama’s takin’ too long tryin’ on her new boobies.”
She makes me laugh. Every. Day.

Saturday morning was dedicated to an Ella date. Poppy spent the morning with my parents while Anthony and I took Ella out to our favorite breakfast spot followed by a movie. We saw The Lorax and it was really good! It actually brought me to tears a few times. (I don’t know if it was supposed to, but I’m a big sap and thought the message was powerful and emotional.)
It’s always hard to tell if Ella likes a movie the first time around because she’s just taking it all in so intensely. I would peek at her throughout the movie to catch a reaction here or there and I’d see her eyes sucking in all the imagery and her brain working to figure it all out. I’m expecting some of the storyline to come out in her stories in the next few days.

I love seeing them walk like this. And look at what twins they are! I just noticed that their legs are exactly the same and even their heads are slightly tilted the same direction.

She was a little jumping bean in the theater, so excited to see the movie (“and eat popcorn, a’course”)! I love that blurry chipmunk smile.

In technicolor . . . “Look Mama! Iz you, wiss eyelashes!”

11pm scone making for Sunday breakfast . . . A surprise waiting for my sweet after work on Friday.

Chocolate chip orange scones for our favorite neighbors, delivered over their back gate.

Sunday naps. This little has been cranky this weekend. I can finally see little teeth poking their way through, so hopefully she’ll get a break from teething soon.

Sunday cleaning. Packing away our silkscreens that have been stashed on my closet floor. I’m feeling a little sad that we stopped printing apparel. It was the first thing Anthony and I built together. We researched the process together, doodled, burned screens, and spent hours on top of hours lining up the frames and printing our designs onto tees, onsies, and totes. We sold them through Etsy and did a couple First Friday events and it was our first taste of a handmade business. It was an exhilarating yet exhausting ride and now that we have kids, I can’t imagine when we’d find those hours to pick it up again.
But it’s still a small passion that I’d like to revisit someday…so for now those screens are just packed away safely, and I’ve regained some closet space.
It was a good one. Here’s to a fresh new week!
Something I’m looking forward to this week: reading The Wizard of Oz to Ella while Poppy takes her morning naps.
What are you looking forward to this week?
xoxo
