34 Weeks (and Thanksgiving)

December 10th, 2010

Alrighty, so these are not actual maternity photos and you can’t see the growth of my belly and Poppy, but they were taken Thanksgiving morning and they’re the only images I have from the week.  I wore an outfit earlier that week that is my other favorite of the moment, but didn’t get out of the house early enough to take decent pictures.

But, I figure I didn’t ever share these Thanksgiving photos anyway, so here we go.  (I know it’s kind of cheating, but I can’t stand the thought of ruining my streak since 14 weeks.)

I told you I love this dress.  And the best part is, it’s not maternity so I can still wear it after Poppy is born.  And I will need super comfortable then too, oh boy will I ever…

Ella Faye is such a stubborn little photography subject.  Sometimes she just oozes grins and fluttery eyelashes and shoots them at the lense, but other times she flees the scene and acts like a superstar, yelling “Nooo pishurs!” in your face.  And with her index finger warningly extended right at you too.  It’s then that she means business.  And it’s then that I focus the camera on whatever cute shoes she’s wearing instead.

This is the week I lost my footing on the diabetes wagon.  I ate a bit of pie.  Too much pie, more than I should have.  And we went to two Thanksgiving dinners, so there were two dessert sessions.  That’s not what put me over my numbers, though.  It was those darn delicious Hoffmann sweet potatoes.  I couldn’t stop picking at them.  And maybe that “real” cranberry sauce from the can.  I couldn’t resist that either.

Since then I’ve been okay.  I’m still doing well on my diet, and feeling extremely better than I remember feeling when I was pregnant with Ella.  It’s an incredible difference.  No puffiness or swelling yet, my ankles hardly ever turn to cankles, my attitude and energy are amazingly different.  I am a fan of food and eating it the right way.  Again, I say this diagnosis is a blessing in disguise.

But is it still in disguise if I’ve already discovered it??

33 Weeks (Only Two Weeks Ago…)

December 7th, 2010

I am so behind on maternity photos!  These are from over two weeks ago, before Thanksgiving even…I am going to try to play catch-up this week, so there will be another maternity post later in the week also.

This is the most comfortable dress.  Really, I do mean it.  It almost feels better than wearing my jammies.  It’s so flowy and loose and I don’t even realize it’s on.  I’ve probably over-worn it already.  It’s so comfy I knew I had to wear it on Thanksgiving to accommodate all the sweet potatoes and pie I was going to eat (but not really…you know, the whole blood sugar thing).

Ella has become such a helpful shopper (and look how fast she is too!).  She picked out the color for me and when I put it on in the fitting room, she proclaimed, “Pretty dress, like Cindell-ella!”

So how could I not take it home?

The boots are from an antique store, and I think I adopted them in my high school days.  They’ve been on the top shelf of my closet because when Ella Faye started walking, she’d shove her legs in them and then get stuck.  They reached up to her hips and she couldn’t move her little legs to take a step.  So they quickly became demoted from Mommy’s dress up shoe collection.

I was surprised that they still fit.  I can’t help but feel a little sassy in them.  I feel a bit like Ariel from Footloose.  I still long for some worn in red cowboy boots.

We spent last weekend in Pinetop visiting Ant’s parents at their wintery cabin.  It was reallyreallycold.  For as much as I complain about the heat in the summertime, I really cannot take the freezing climate either.  Although it is nice for a switch-up once in a while.

Highlights of our trip include:

* Playing Christmas music on the way up the mountains, warm soy latte by my side and crochet hook in my hand.  The whole way up, that’s what I did.  Ahhh…

* Seeing Ella with her grandma and grandpa.  I feel like they miss out on each other more than they should because we live three hours away.  Visits tend to be restricted to special occasions and holidays.
But then we only live three hours away…we’re going to work to make it more often.

* Regardless, Ella was so taken with Ant’s mom.  The whole way up, she talked about how she was going to give her a big hug and kisses.  The entire weekend, if grandma was around, Ella’s hand was in hers.  (Why do other females always trump Mommy’s hand??)

* Ella’s reaction to Grandma’s “oofies.”  A mopey old Basset Hound (formerly ours), and a pony-sized Golden Lab.  They couldn’t get enough sniffs and licks on her and each time they’d come near, she’d flinch, fold up her arms, turn, and run anywhere she could.  It was so cute.  And hilarious, like she thought they were so disgusting.  But by the end of the weekend, she was yelling at them – “Zeek, what you doing here?” and “Det down!  Det down now!”

* Sharing our bed with Ella Faye.  This is something we don’t do at home.  Ant and I value our time together, anywhere it may be, and it works best for all of us for her to sleep in her own bed.  But being an unfamiliar place, we let her crawl in cozy with us and it was so nice.  The first night there, I was awake half the night because every time I’d go to sleep I’d dream there were spiders in my hair.  (What does that mean??)  So I’d lay there and stare at her little sleeping face.
The second morning, she woke me up with a soft little kiss on the cheek.  Then she gently patted my tummy and crawled back to snuggle next to Daddy on his pillow.  That is a sweet memory I will not ever forget.

* Driving an hour to get to the tortilla shop!  We are starting to do this every time we visit and I think it’s a tradition we are going to have to keep up.  Especially when I can have sugar and as many carbs as I want.  Next door to the tortilla shop is a little family run Mexican bakery with the most beautiful delicate sweet breads.  Oh my gosh, for the reals.  They are so good.  See here:

Those thick slices of bread up there?  Topped with a heavy layer of creamy vanilla bean butter and sprinkled with sugar.  Sounds so simple but it is amazing.  Those are my favorites.  This time I only took one bite but come January, I am eating the whole enchilada -err- sweet bread.

* Ella loved them too.  I gave her a piece of a cinnamon bun and it was like watching a cartoon, the way the thing disappeared into her mouth.  Then she gave me the real and true stink eye when I told her I was cutting her off.  She ate enough to make up for my share.

* The rest of the weekend was filled up with eating and movie watching and antiquing and eating and relaxing and warm sips of cozy drinks.

It was a really lovely weekend and I feel blessed to have such warm and caring in-laws.

It’s nice to be reminded where my good man came from.

We took these photos on an afternoon walk in hopes of counteracting the few bites of sweetness I’d had earlier in the day.  It was cold and my allergies went crazy in the brittle field.  We’d hoped to get more photos of the trip but just as we were taking these photos, we ran out of battery.  Isn’t that just the way?

31 Weeks

November 11th, 2010

Good evening, All!

Light on words again tonight.  I am exhausted!  I’ve been working on ten new plush dolls, all at once and it’s beginning to wear on me I think.  (I’m excited to share more on that in the coming days!)

We’re packing up to head North in the morning for a weekend with Ant’s parents.  It should be fun (and coldcoldcold).  I can’t wait to visit the Mexican bakery and get my hands on some fresh warm tortillas.  Can I somehow manage to counteract those delicious treats??  Moderation is key, I suppose.  (Don’t be a hog, Katy.)  This weekend may be my first downfall, a practice step for Thanksgiving right around the corner.  (Can you believe it really is right around the corner already??)  Oh my gracious.

Hope you have a fabulous weekend.  Stay bundled, snuggled, and full (of everything good).

Outfit details:
Blouse – H&M (recent and on sale!)
Pants – F21 (really pushing the limit on these…)
Flats – H&M (last year)
