Out to Breakfast in San Diego

July 1st, 2011

On Saturday morning we headed out to breakfast at Naked Cafe. It was so good! I am still thinking about our breakfasts – a soy chorizo scramble with black beans and salsa and coconut French toast.

Ella ordered her very own Mexican hot chocolate and as she took her first sips, she exclaimed, “I so essited to be a big gill!!” She finished it before our food came.

After breakfast we went back to Grandma’s house to get ready for the graduation/birthday party later that day.

We left the bash late and as soon as the girls were buckled and the engine started, they were out for the entire drive. Beside them in the back seat, I drifted in and out of sleep. Every time I’d come to, I’d hear bits and pieces of Ant’s conversation with his grandma. I loved hearing those parts of her stories that I caught with sleepy ears, and I know he loved learning about her past. From what it was like when she dated his grandpa, to moving from Italy and raising her little boys in New York. Then moving all the way to Arizona and opening a bar, working all day making pizzas and pastas…

Ant and I talked about her stories the next day as we drove home. He filled me in on the parts that I missed. There seems to be a magic to it all. Maybe it’s the magic that tags along with any story recalled from black-and-white times. Either way, I know we’re both glad to have learned more about her story.

Thanks for sharing in our vacation!

XoXo, Katy
