At the Beach!
June 30th, 2011

The first day of our visit, we headed out to a few of Grandma’s friends’ houses. The funny thing about this trip is that we thought we were going to spend time with Grandma, but Grandma seemed to want to spend time with as many friends and us as possible. She lead us around her town, Ant driving aimlessly until it was time to swerve right or left onto a side street. We’d unload the girls and head inside a stranger’s house to pick fruit from their orchard or eat their zucchini, freshly fried.

That afternoon we broke away for a little beach break. We drove into Carlsbad, stopped by a shop for some ice cream, and headed down to the beach. It was beautiful weather and the water was just a little bit chilly. This was Poppy’s second trip to the beach and I just love the idea of the girls getting to know it as a steady vacation spot as they grow up. It’s definitely our favorite place to travel to.
Ant and I took turns running to the water with Ella to fill up her buckets so she could get her castle-making on. When I took her out, I lead her a little too far and we had a grand fall into the receding wave. Ella thought it was a thrill until she got a mouthful of salty sea water and didn’t know what to think of it. Her little face was completely puzzled.
We stayed until Poppy was ready to go and headed back to Grandma Clara’s for a pasta feast. We went to bed with our bellies full, sand in our hair, and bodies tired from the sun.
What a nice way to fall asleep…
XoXo, Katy
