Saturday, What A Day!

June 11th, 2011

(Groovin’ all week with you…) I’ve had the “Happy Days” theme song stuck in my head all day. Not sure, but it might be Ant’s fault. I recently found out it was his favorite show growing up. Mine has always been “I Love Lucy” (and always, forever and ever will be), but I also really really loved “Laverne and Shirley”. Actually that and “Happy Days” were about tied in my book. But I find it funny that he loved The Fonz.

And here is my tangent for the evening:

My best friend growing up (and still!) Erin and I would watch those old shows religiously. Like turn on the WB (remember the WB?!) or TBS during the day or Nick at Nite on sleepover nights and leave the TV on, glowing and entertaining us with those old shows. They’re like old friends. I miss them often. Why aren’t those goodies on TV any more? I want to see Laverne and Shirl’, Richie and Mr. and Mrs. Cunningham again. I miss Taxi Tony Danza and Latka. And I’d love to see the shenanigans of Chrissy Snow and Jack Tripper again. And speaking of Tony Danza, what about “Who’s the Boss”? That’s not nearly as old, but I’d take that too. And “The Wonder Years”…don’t get me started on “The Wonder Years.” I made Ant find the entire series a few years ago and I think it’s time to delve into them again.

It’s Summertime and those shows are forever engrained into my Summertime state of mind. Does anyone know if these nuggets of TV gold are shown at all anymore?

I think this one portrays just how hot it was today…

Anyway, Saturday, what a day! I woke up this morning with a craving for an Arnold Palmer and remembered the last one I’d tasted was on our anniversary date night a couple weeks ago. Ant had run into Lux and grabbed me a soy latte and an Arnold Palmer for himself. It was made with Hibiscus tea and it was delicious. I sipped my latte and wished I had gotten that Arnold Palmer instead. (But this is often how it works with us. Ant always picks the thing that’s just a teensy bit better and then I get sad and jealous. I kind of, just a little, think he does this on purpose. Hehee, just maybe. So lately I’ve given in and I just order what he’s getting if I think there’s a chance his taste might trump mine. And it usually does.)

such a hipster goose

So after a little playtime for the girls and a little DIY project for me (my first tutorial, to be blogged later this week!), we headed out for downtown Phoenix. We stopped at Butter Toast Boutique for a little browsing first, then made it over to Lux. We sat on the patio and snacked on a peanut butter thumbprint cookie and a salted caramel brownie, oh my.

Since we were around the corner, we couldn’t help but visit Frances and check out their new studio with the loveliest pairs of shoes. Oh I can dream, I can dream.

Pouty ride home…Mama can only get so funny and big sister is being a scary loud roaring monster beside her

I think it was just the little outing I needed. When we came home, I got straight to work making (up) an early dinner, and it was good! I wish I had photographed it along the way, but I might still try to salvage a post out of it. I need some content for that little kitchen section up there on that little pink ribbon.

Sometimes all you need to jumpstart your whole self again is a little impromptu break from the ordinary. I am feeling refreshed and energized and get this, creative! I think I’m going to have a date with my plush dolls tonight. Maybe we’ll make some mochas and search out The Fonz. Or a little Kevin Arnold. Kevin Arnold will always do…

(By the way, my very first crush ever was on a fellow second grader named Kevin A. Kevin Arnold from the first season of “The Wonder Years” always makes me think of him. Because I was Katy A., I was lucky enough to sit next to him in our little desk pod. We actually played footsies under our desks. I think that’s the only time I ever played footsies with anyone. All the other girls liked Johnny R. But I liked Kevin A…)

Hope you are having a wonderful weekend! I’ll be back soon with Poppy’s five month post!

Sweetest wishes, Katy

  1. I have Laverne and Shirley on DVD… I think we need to make midnight nachos and have a tv marathon!

  2. Anthony says:

I need to try those nachos at some point in time. They get a lot hype from the two of you.

  3. Katy says:

EAKster, we should do it!! A grown up sleepover! Midnight nachos, I have missed them!

And Ant, they deserve every bit of hype…it’s time you see for yourself. :)
