The Cow and the Kitty

April 1st, 2011

This morning I woke from a dream in which I was a dairy cow and Ant was a farm kitty.

I’ve spent the morning thinking this over and while it’s obvious why I, in my postpartum nursing state, starred as a dairy cow, I think it’s interesting to ponder why I cast my husband as a shaggy orange farm cat. So far I’ve come up with the comparisons that he is always around, cuddly, comforting, sometimes timid, quiet, and occasionally dons whiskers.

I think it’s telling that I came across as a large and slow, sometimes in the way, overbearing animal, and he was the agile, quick to move one with a patient heart. Isn’t it fitting that the cat with keen eyesight can spot the cumbersome cow making her way through the field, and knows just when to stay out of her way?

But all of this aside, I think a cow and a kitty have a lot of traits in common. Both are gentle, calm for the most part, and hold tender hearts within.

Can’t you just see a dairy cow and a farm cat nuzzled up close on a bed of hay together?

I think it’s a pretty perfect match.
