PoppyLou is 2 Months! (But this is 3 weeks old…)

April 1st, 2011

(So I just saw this folder sitting on my desktop, full of Poppy’s 2 month photos and realized that I never posted them. I am horrible at staying on top of things sometimes. Here we are, very near to three months, and here is the update of Poppy at two months. I’m glad to have it on record…when I look back it won’t matter that it was up late. See you back here in a few days for PoppyLou at three months!!)

Time is officially flying by. Baby Poppy is 2 months old and I kind of can’t believe it.

I love discovering just what kind of baby she is. She’s already got a big personality inside that tiny body, and I know it’s just going to keep growing. She’s a sweetie and a little temperamental. She loves to talk and be talked too.

I think the best part of my days is when a smile breaks across her face. She can lighten everything in an instant.

She is so happy and smiley in the mornings and after naps. She might be fussing in her bed but once she sees you standing over her, that bright smile cracks and then her whole body gets excited. Nothing can make you feel more loved than a smiling, kicking, happy baby.

People who knew Ella as a baby are asking if her hair was dark like Poppy’s. We say yes, it was, but by the time Ella was two months it had fallen out and was growing back in as blond fuzz. So we’re kind of thinking Poppy might keep her darker hair. (She may just have a little more of my Mexican heritage in her than Ella Faye.)

Our little Poppers was weighed and measured when we went to her two month well-baby check last week. She is up to 10 and a half pounds and 22.5 inches long. Her head is still tiny, in the 30th percentile. She’s coming up just like her big sister – skinny mini, long and lean, with a tiny little noggin.

She sleeps about eight hours at night. The doctor was surprised she is sleeping so long through the night and asked if it is Ant or I who likes to sleep. We both pointed the finger at me, most definitely. I’m happy to have passed that trait onto her as a baby, but I’m sure it’ll come back to get me when she’s a teenager.

I’m starting to pick up on Poppy’s sleeping schedule. She goes to bed about 10 and sleeps until 5:30 or 6 in the morning. I nurse her and she’s back to sleep until around 8, then she’ll nurse again and we get to have some good face time. She eats a lot in the morning hours to make up for sleeping so long. She takes a nap about 10 a.m. then again around Ella’s naptime at 2 p.m. (Sometimes they’re both napping at once and I feel like I’ve hit the jackpot! Of course then I most likely fall asleep too instead of being productive.)

We’ve been getting a lot of face to face time with Miss Pops. Her favorite thing right now is raspberries (without the tongue…just the lips. Is that still a raspberry?) You are almost guaranteed a smile if you give her a raspberry. She’s started trying to do them back these past few days. She puts on her focused face and goes for it, and out come the bubbles.

She is starting to babble and says “goo” a lot. She looks like she’s concentrating so hard to get the sound out. It’s so fun to have a mini conversation with her.

Oh! Something that’s so sweet these days is when Poppy sees her sister nearby. She just becomes transfixed and gets so excited, kicking her legs and punching her arms. She smiles every time Ella comes near.

Speaking of Miss Ella Faye, an update on her:

She is still doing so well adjusting to her new role as big sister. She’s sweet to Poppy and breaks from play to give her little kisses and coo at her. I’m so proud of her. And what a wonderful example she is for her little sister.

I have told friends and family several times that I keep waiting for the jealousy to set in. Now that we’re two months in, I don’t know if that’s going to be an issue at all. It seems like Ella just knew this is the way it was supposed to be, if that makes sense.

Today Ella has started calling her baby sister PoppyLou Grace. I can’t get over it. Last night as Poppy lay in her bed, Ella strolled by, pointed into the crib, and said, “There’s a beautiful girl right here.”

She stole my heart again right there.

I can’t believe some of the things she says these days. Sometimes I’m not sure if she actually knows what she’s saying, but other times I wouldn’t put it past her. She’s one sharp little girl.

I tell her every night when I put her to bed how proud I am of her, for everything that she is. She is too incredible for words.

They both are…

Cute stuff. Our girls are growing so fast. Saying that will get you started on a series of events bound to happen in the next 20 years. Sorry in advance. :P
