Ella Faye Takes Flight
March 29th, 2011

The other morning my little girl spread her wings and took her first tiny flight.
She flew herself to the front row at Storytime, and I watched from afar.
We have always sat together, in the back one or two rows. Last Thursday morning as the kids slowly made their way into the reading room, she told me she was going to sit (pointing) “down dair”, in the front. I told her okay. I thought she might change her mind when she met me at the table for her nametag, but instead she skipped down the steps again and planted herself in the center of the front row.

I sent Ant a photo and he quickly sent back a “No way!” He was just as surprised.
I watched Ella Faye interact with the girl beside her. I heard her say, “I have a lellow shirt!” And I melted.
The best part of this is that Ella was aware of this big girl step for her. Every once in a while, when one of her favorite songs or finger plays would begin, she would turn around to find me and throw me the biggest grin I’ve ever seen. She was so thrilled. And I’d melt every time.

I sat in the back, next to my tiny napping girl, and watched my oldest with a brimming heart. It sort of ached, to see her so independent. But it’s a good sort of ache. She is a confident little girl, coming out of her shyness. We’ve done something right. She’s such a bright, smart, fiesty child. Ant and I are so proud of her.
We’re so blessed to witness her stretch and grow, to spread her wings and take flight through milestone after milestone.
