A Happy New Year List

January 2nd, 2011

(Retrospectively blogging tonight)

Here I sit, composing this note on my phone so I don’t have to disturb the sleeping husband on my belly.

His head rests on our tiny bump of a daughter still in my belly (though not for much longer).  I feel her little kicks against his cheek.

This is a sweet moment.

There are fire crackers going off outside our home.  We are 20 minutes into the new year.

We celebrated quietly, our minds heavy with anticipation of the gift that is soon to arrive.

We are waiting to expand our family, most likely the last expansion for us.  It is bittersweet.

I’ve been thinking about some ways to enhance my life, my self, in this year that lies ahead.  Here is my list, to be extended as I see fit throughout the year:

Take up a yoga practice.  Enroll in a class and take it seriously.  Make it a ritual.

Continue to feed my body according to the diet I’ve adopted through this pregnancy.  Sweets in moderation.

Embrace my postpartum body.

Practice more patience when our daughter becomes tempersome.  Remember that she is learning, always learning, and simply needs guidance and comfort.

Show each of our daughters every day, how much love I hold for them.

Be present to all the blessings I encounter each day.

Be cognizant that there are blessings in disguise everywhere.  Trying times, trying individuals, there is always something to be learned.  And so there is something to be grateful for.

Think positively. No more wasting time and thoughts on “what if”s or criticisms.

Encourage others around me to think positively.  We can create a healthier community.

Let go of the things that aren’t serving me.

Love my husband madly each and every day.

Here’s to a shining new year full of experiences that bring us growth and love.  Here’s to you, and here’s to yours!  Happy 2011!  I am pretty excited.

(Do you have any not-so-resolutions for the new year?  Let’s hear them!)

Sweetest wishes and those Xs & Os, Katy
