Best Day Ever (Yet)
December 9th, 2010

I can’t speak for little Ella Faye, but today was just about my best day ever spent with her. Maybe her birth day tops it, or a few family days that of course included the company of Ant, but today is definitely in the list of bests.

We took a trip to Frances Vintage this morning to pick up my “Best Booth Award” prize from Crafeteria the other night. Who knew there was an award for that?? It was a lovely surprise for sure. While we were there, we stopped into Smeeks and I found myself filling our basket with all kinds of sweet goodness stocking stuffers. That really is the best place to find stocking loot. Santa, I mean you. That tip is for you. Frances has a million tiny beautiful things that would fit nicely in that big ol’ sock too, Santa. Just saying…

Naturally after all that shopping, we were famished! So we headed down the street for a tomato, mozzarella, and basil sandwich. If you live around Phoenix, you must go to Pane Bianco for lunch at some point. Ella and I sat on a bench outside and shared our sandwich. It’s Ant’s favorite and obviously that taste gene got passed to his daughter because she ate an entire half all by herself. I heard the exclamation “Doo-licious!” about thirty times as we ate. And then she cheered the sandwich on as she chowed down bigtime. I’d say that’s a rave review from a two year old. So Pane Bianco – go!

They always sneak a chocolate treat in your lunch bag, and today’s was a tiny chocolate cowboy boot. I like to think it was fate. Or maybe the cashier thought she was being cute. Which she was, in that case. (No doctors, I did not eat it.)

We snuck next door to pick up some cookies to bring home to Daddy since he missed out on the fun. Ella was so cute browsing the sweets case. She was bashful with wide hopeful eyes and when I agreed to let her pick, she quietly pointed out the one she wanted – a homemade oatmeal cream pie. That’s the one I would have picked too. We brought home a peanut butter chocolate brownie for Daddy.

By then we were swiftly coming up on naptime and we were half an hour from home so I decided to keep the outing going and make one last stop. There’s a giant fabric store in town that I rarely frequent because I never venture out that way. So Ella and I shopped the aisles of cotton and linen for plush supplies. I found a knit that I want to turn into a dress or skirt and some goodies for making matching Christmas headpieces for the little and me. So fruitful!
Then I even got an impromptu snuggly nap in bed with my girl while Ant cooked up fajitas for dinner. It was the perfect way to end a cozy girl’s day out.
All in all, today was one of the very best, filled with so many little pleasures that rounded out into complete loveliness. Tonight I am feeling brazenly aware that this is exactly the shape I want my life to be. A mommy, a wife, a crafter, a dreamer and seeker.
Grateful, to no end.
