Sunday Best

October 3rd, 2010

Our little Ella is turning two tomorrow.

I don’t understand this.  I can’t grasp how this happened so quickly.  It’s a bittersweet feeling overcome with gratefulness that I get to share in this most-amazing little person’s great big life.

Tonight I thought I’d turn my Sunday Best into a dedication to the little love of my life.

Things I Love About Ella Faye Elizabeth:

She is a lover, empathetic, and thoughtful.

The new words and phrases that come from her mouth every day astound me.  How is she learning all this?

When she says she misses Daddy because he’s at work.

The way her hands fly up and she shakes them around, while dropping her mouth open at the same time to show her excitement.  She’s done that since she was a baby.

Her expressions and the way she gets her tone just right…”No way,” and “Aw, come on!” are a couple of favorites.

The way she has made me believe, since she was four months old, that there is old wisdom in her soul.

Her dimples, especially the one that appears deep in her left cheek when she smiles.

How much she enjoys going to church.  She loves to sing with the choir.

The two tiny beauty marks that have crept onto her cheekbone and earlobe in the last month.  I’d been waiting for a beauty mark or a freckle for a long time, and they are just perfect.

Her scrumptious little toes.  I will always want to eat them.

The way that no matter how hard a day can get, she is here to put me back in place.

The way she can turn on the goofball and make you laugh, then laugh at herself too.

That she is a story-teller and loves to chat.  Her ability to tell stories and scenarios, to recount her day and all the events and emotions that filled it.  Her enthusiasm in telling any anecdote.

“Aloo-you” means “I love you.”

Her excitement over becoming a big sister and the knowledge Ant and I have that this little baby is so blessed to have a guide in Ella.

The way she makes me proud so many times a day.  How she surprises me with something she says or does that shakes me so much I have to call her daddy and talk about how crazy that was.

How she loves cheese ravioli, just like her daddy.

That she is so particular and knows exactly what she wants (most of the time).

Her impeccable comic timing.

The way everything is new again through her.

The way she gives me meaning.  She has defined me more than anything or anyone else.  I am everything I am because of this beautiful little being, and it’s the only way I want to be.

Those are the best of the best, and there is so much more to be discovered…

Happy Birthday to our sweet Ella Faye!!
