A Beautiful Morning

July 17th, 2010

I awake to happy screams and giggles bouncing into my ears from the next room.  A familiar sound in the mornings.  The cheerful song I am grateful for.  What a way to wake up.

It quickly occurrs to me that I could learn many things from our nearly-two-year old girl.  It is rare that she wakes with a fuss.  Instead she sits up and carries on nice lengthy chats with the lucky stuffed animal that was chosen to be her mate the night before.  The chats turn into songs, followed by clapping and cheers.  And this morning there must have been tickling added to the lineup.  What a way to wake up.

With my daughter providing my favorite background music, I roll onto my back and have some alone time with Baby.  These days he is a nice mound, low in my belly.  The perfect size to lay my hands across.  What a way to wake up.

I sit up and pull open the blinds.  The color outside teases me.  Gloominess and Autumn-like hues from inside my window.  I know better than to step outside.

I think about the past couple days spent with friends.  I send a good morning message to friends in a far away land.  I decide I will prepare a dinner and sweet snack to deliver to my newly-mothering friend this weekend.  I think about snuggling that brand new little boy of hers.

My love returns from an early summer morning round of golf.  He has brought eggs to be married with the blackened bananas on the counter.  Saturday morning banana bread sounds wonderful.

Good morning to you and a merry weekend to follow.  Spend it with the ones you love.
