Slowly but Surely

“Every day you make progress.  Every step may be fruitful.  Yet there will stretch out before you an ever-lengthening, ever-ascending, ever-improving path.  You know you will never get to the end of the journey.  But this, so far from discouraging, only adds to the joy and glory of the climb.”

-Winston Churchill

The other day I had a little mid-morning alone-time.  Ella went across the street to play with her Yaya and Papa and I sat down at my little yellow cafe table to reunite with my sewing machine.  It was wonderful.

I pulled out my plush dolls, the ones that have been waiting patiently inside a picnic basket for months.  Three little boys all cut out, pieced together, awaiting a little hand and machine stitching.

In my crafting time I sewed sleeves to arms, arms together, and tiny shirt collars.  It may not sound like all that much progress but it feels good to finally be getting back into it.

Just as importantly, my alone-time turned into think-time.

The house was silent.  I sat beside the big kitchen window listening to the slight breeze and chatter of birds on the other side.  I sipped my warm tea with milk and agave nectar.  And I made notes for this space I’ve carved for myself.

I am trying to come back.  Lots has happened in the past couple of months.

(Oh, so so much has come to be.)

The month of May was particularly hectic and full.  I can’t even remember everything that went on but I know that when the month was over, I looked back and felt exhausted.  Birthdays, several events, Mother’s Day, our anniversary…a fabulous discovery…

Then June happened and in came my birthday, a super surprise visit from my sister, appointments, Father’s Day, a very nasty cold…

Now onto July already and I still have June’s happenings to catch up on.

We have been busy and I am in a bit of an adjustment period.  But I’m beginning to feel normalcy settle in again.

I am excited to fill this space again, to make progress here.  There’s a lot to share.  Welcome back.

Katy! Would you do a blog on cloth diapers. What brand you love. How easy/hard it has been for you. Do you use disposable diapers when you go out?
